Beaton Executive Coaching

Who I am

Experience in executive coaching

As one of Australia’s leading executive coaches, I have advised and consulted to those in, or on the verge of, the C-suite and to board members in corporations, professional services firms, governments and universities. What’s more, I have enjoyed the privilege of doing so for over 25 years.

Business experience

Able to call upon a diverse business background, I can offer those with whom I work a unique commercial focus. I am a co-founder and Director of Beaton Research + Consulting, the region’s premier benchmarking, customised research and evidence-based consulting house. Key achievements during my time with Beaton have included building the firm’s highly successful ‘Leadership and Change’ practice and spearheading the company’s employer brand and engagement research initiatives. I also developed one of the first online 360-degree feedback systems and the first validated competency model for professional services firms.

Life and career transitions

I am no stranger to major life and career transitions, having emigrated from South Africa in 1986, where I owned and operated one of the country’s largest and most successful physiotherapy practices. Upon moving to Australia, I continued my studies, completing a Masters in Applied Psychology and PhD at the University of Melbourne.
My Masters thesis provided fresh insights into stress and burnout across life-career stages in the professions, while my PhD research explored how corporate clients of law firms make purchasing decisions based on their perceptions of value.

Academic background

Previously a Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne, I have lectured in organisational behaviour and managing services for Melbourne Business School, and taught a range of leadership-related subjects, including ‘Managing People’,
to postgraduates in the Masters program at Melbourne Law School.

My practice

The combination of my academic background, my diverse life experience and my strong commercial orientation enables me uniquely to understand and appreciate the challenges that leaders face – in theory and in practice, and on both a personal and a professional level.
Today, my practice draws on principles from cognitive and organisational psychology, and the world of business. This approach is underpinned by my dedication to the alignment of individual and organisational objectives, and to the delivery of shared and measurable outcomes.
